Veteran’s Day is
Wednesday. It is a holiday. All schools
and banks and government offices will be closed on Wednesday. St. Thomas
abattoir will be closed. . UVI and the
UVI Libraries and labs are all closed on Wednesday. .
On St. John there will be a parade beginning at Crabbys
Watersports in Coral Bay St. John at 10:30 AM marching to the Agriculture
Station. And there will be a mini food fair.
On St. Thomas the parade starts at 3:00 PM from Addelita
Cancryn Junior High School and marches past western cemetery and down Main
Street to Veterans Park for a ceremony.
More News for Veterans, the Veterans Administration is
holding a Welcome home ceremony on St.
Thomas on Saturday November 14 at Emile Griffith Ball Park. All veterans should have received an
invitation and phone call from the VA reps.

On Wednesday WAPA says they will have extended hours pumping
water tonight at 8:00 PM through Wednesday at 8:00 PM. They are storing water
for the St. Thomas East End. This may cause loss of water pressure in the east
end during the pumping. You are advised to store water in case of loss of
pressure.
The Annual Virgin Gorda
Get-A-Way, a day trip to Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands, is
scheduled for today. The trip is for UVI students, staff, faculty and friends.

St. Martin - Locals
and vacationers alike will celebrate the 50th anniversary of ‘St.
Maarten Day’ on Nov. 11, 2009. This year’s event, themed “Express
Gratitude To Our Forefathers,” is packed with traditions, activities, parades
and festivities all designed to unite the country as one island, one people,
and one destiny. The date – Nov. 11 – was chosen because it is said that
Christopher Columbus had seen the island on that date, naming it after the
patron saint of the day, St. Martin. . A uniformed group will walk through
Philipsburg and head to Festival Village on Pond Island where dignitaries will
give an official address followed by a luncheon. Following the luncheon a
cultural parade will begin with ethnic associations displaying their cultural
garb along with the Soualiga Kids Foundation and 750 elementary school children
wearing costumes to depict local heritage

Friday St. Thomas, USVI – McDonald’s
announces the celebration of this year’s McHappy Day to benefit local cause
USVI Therapy Association. The chain of restaurants will
support the cause by creating a whole day dedicated to raise funds for
the institution’s mission. On Friday,
November 13, all participating McDonald’s restaurants in St. Thomas and St.
Croix will join together to promote the mission and message of TADA.There are

Reichhold Center for the
Arts will present The Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra and VI native
mezzo-soprano Melita Etienne, as the featured vocalist, perform Saturday, Nov.

Saturday TEMPO Turns 4 on St. Croix. The concert is at the
Randall "Doc" James Racetrack with the local portion form 4:00 PM to
7:00 PM and the regional concert from 7:00 PM to the wee hours. Tempo is

Saturday Nov. 14 concert will also be broadcast, beginning at 4
p.m., on public television station WJTX.

Department of
Education Human Resources will host a workshop on Interpersonal
Communication Skills in the Workplace. The Workshop is on Tuesday,
November 17th, 2009 from
9 a.m. to 4 p.m., held simultaneously in each district. “A major focus

these sessions target our front

The St. Thomas – St. John Agriculture and Food Fair will be

The Virgin Islands Humanities Council is seeking cultural
groups to participate in a new initiative called “Building Community,
Celebrating Diversity”. Groups are invited to create cultural showcase,
culinary samplings, exhibits, plan, panel discussions, in this community grants
program. Deadline to register is Monday, Dec. 7, 2009.This is part of
the “We the People” initiative funded by the National Endowment for the
Humanities, to inspire deeper appreciation for Virgin Islanders’ unique

St. Thomas restaurateurs
have joined together and created an appetizing promotion called St. Thomas
Spice. From now through December 15,
participating restaurants will offer a special three-course menu (exclusive of

The Virgin Islands
Census Office has announced that a number of census jobs are available in association
with Census 2010, which is being conducted under the auspices of UVI’s Eastern
Caribbean Center. Local residents are needed to list addresses, pick up
completed questionnaires and interview households. Enumerators and crew
leaders, along with some clerks and office workers, are also needed. An application form, which includes
descriptions of the jobs available and qualifications that applicants must
